This article is based around Don Bryant a famed dowser and Stonehenge investigator of many years.
Don opened up his talk by explaining about the landscape that is the greater part of the Stonehenge experience. I didn’t realise that the area around the stones was so important to the overall journey that our predecessor’s would have engaged in.
It was the existence of the very large wood henge that seemed to be where the Stonehenge journey would have started. Here with assistance of archaeological artists we saw that the Wood Henge was something to behold and this is where many people met.
There are some ideas that this is where many might have stayed, with archaeological suggestions of a hotel of sorts perhaps where the people who had journeyed there would rest before possibly making a short river journey along the river Avon to probably landing where today there are the remnants of a wooden jetty with evidence of a short blue stones avenue or place stones. They would then make the walk or perhaps better described as a pilgrimage or even procession to Stonehenge itself along the Avenue.
What became quite clear from Dons enthusiasm for the area was the intense energetic activity that is apparent everywhere. The energies are so strong in some areas along the Avenue that the dowsing rods were reacting by spinning like helicopters rotors.
Also described by Don was a natural sense of well being. The positive energies of the area give the sensation of a natural high and this is perhaps one of the reasons it was chosen by the people of the time as the ‘special’ place.
Our ancestors would have been far more receptive to the energies of the area, tuned in, and not bombarded as we are nowadays with energies of all sorts from a spectrum of radio waves to electrical appliances emitting blanketing interference to the subtleties of our environment.
What also became clear was that nobody knows exactly what went on at Stonehenge and the other many Henge’s that exist in the area. What was the purpose of so many structures? Was the lasting question
We may one day find out and Don who has spent many years dowsing the area has many ideas and theories but none proven. The talk contained much more than recounted here and perhaps to get along to one of Don’s seminar’s would be enlightening to say the least but there are also many books written about the area which make some fine reading.
To provide some further reading and evidence about what and why Stone Henge was created for we include some links (below) to some exciting investigations about the Spirituality of the overall site, the valued sacredness of the blues stones themselves as well as the possible mind altering sensations that are available to be discovered in this ancient sacred landscape.
A brief overview of the use of the Stone Henge site can be traced back to at least 8,000 BC (10,000 years ago) with post holes strongly suggesting ‘Sky Burials’ where the dead would be offered to the spirits (birds) to consume and be taken to the spirit world, these post holes can be found painted white in the Stonehenge visitor car park, and on occasion when you approach these ancient ‘sky burial’ positions you can feel a powerful Earth energy surge pulsing through you which to me is the ideal place to place your dead, as the Earth energy has likely been there since the geology formed, this can be felt as well as dowsed.
